About

My first full-time job after earning a B.A. in biology from UC Berkeley is this position as a high school mathematics teacher for a five-week program. Although my long term goals and preparation are to pursue a career in medicine, teaching has always been something I find inspires me. When I get up nearly everyday early in the morning and excited to go to work, as I have been for the past couple weeks, I know I’m in the right place.

Throughout my collegiate and pre-collegiate career, I had experience in formal and informal tutoring settings. However, I am not currently credentialed—which is why there is a co-teacher in the classroom. Our responsibilities are shared virtually 50-50 which has been great for me. I get half of the four-hour block of time to try my own style and learn through actual teaching, and the other half to learn from someone with experience. Planning lessons and classroom work is also shared about 50-50 and we bounce ideas and confirm plans together. My co-teacher’s confidence in me to put responsibility on me immediately has been valuable.

My goal with this blog is to share with you some of what I learn. I’m not sure if my future holds a career in teaching, but I’m enjoying this unique experience. If you want to talk about anything else, you can reach me on Twitter at @ElijahAbramson. I also have written about sports on various websites and have my own brand at Bases and Baskets.

Feel free to comment or ask any questions on my era of teaching.

Warmly,

Elijah
